MIDTOWN TERRORIST ROBBERY THWARTED
By HANK PERDUE
TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
STEEL CANYON, PARAGON – Fully half
of the "super Villain" group known as Ultimatum are cooling
their heels in The Vault today, after an attempted robbery was thwarted.
Three members of the group Binder, Blackstar
and Charger burst into the main branch of Bergdorf Goodman Jewelers at
approximately 2:15 yesterday afternoon. The manager set off the silent
alarm before being dragged into a back room by Binder, along with his
sales staff. The police arrived before the group could make its escape.
A bloody standoff ensued when police officers
tried to storm the store. Two officers are currently in critical condition
after being blasted by Charger.
The standoff could have lasted for hours
longer, however, had it not been for the appearance of a mysterious figure
amidst the chaos. After some commotion within the bank, police could see
an inky black cloud darting through the inside of the building, apparently
battling Charger. This was confirmed when Charger, bleeding and unconscious,
flew through the front doors of the store and landed on the sidewalk at
the feet of the police. When police officers entered the building a minute
later, they found the other two Ultimates similarly unconscious.
The store's owner, Angelo Moroni, was grateful
and incredulous. "A voice from the shadows said, ‘I am your
worst nightmare. I am that which cannot be seen. I am... the Black Spectre!’
and then everything went black. When the lights came back on, my shop
was saved!" he was quoted.
Police Detective Jack Defoe had one comment
to make: "If this guy wants to take people's lives into his hands,
he'd better be sure he takes damn good care of them. 'Cause if he ends
up killing someone, rest assured I'll hunt him down."
